They are the moments that interrupt our plans, force us to pause, and leave us wondering what's next. These commas come in many forms--a job loss the end of a relationship, a health diagnosis, or an empty nest. They can be unsettling, even painful.
For me, one of my "comma" moments came when I lost my judge re-election at 52. For years, my career defined my financial stability, and suddenly, it was gone. At first, I saw that comma as a period--a final stop. It felt like the end of my story.
But over time, reading through the Bible and many days of self reflections, I discovered something life changing: commas aren't endings. They are pauses that prepare us for what's next. God used that time to help me discover a greater purpose--creating Living After the Comma, a space to encourage and walk alongside women like you who are navigating their own transitions.
My season is teaching me to let go of fear and trust that God's plans are always better than my own.
Periods signal the end of a sentence, a finality. Commas, on the other hand, create space to breathe, reflect, and continue the story. In the same way, life's "comma" moments are opportunities for growth and transformation, even if they don't feel that way at first,
In those moments of uncertainty, God reminds us that the pause has a purpose: "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future." ~Jeremiah 29:11~
Here are some truths I am learning through my own transition:
Pausing is Powerful
Life's pauses give us the chance to reflect on what truly matters. They are a gift, even if they don't feel like one. In my pause, I have asked myself some hard questions:
What am I clinging to that no longer serves me?
What might God be inviting me to step into next?
Faith Guides the Journey
Trusting God in the midst of uncertainty is not easy, but it's necessary. He sees the bigger picture even when we can't. During my "comma" season, leaning into prayer and scriptures have become my anchors.
Growth Comes in the Pause
The space between what was and what's next is where growth happens. It's where we become stronger, more resilient, and more open to God's plan for our lives.
Are you in a "comma" moment right now? Maybe it feels overwhelming, even impossible. But I want you to know this: your story is far from over.
God is using this pause to shop you, strengthen you, and prepare you for what's next. Embrace the pause, lean into your faith, and trust that the best is yet to come.
What's your comma moment? I'd love to hear your story. Share it in the comments of send me a note.
